
Awarded Japan’s highest civilian award for her lifelong contribution to the classical floral art of Ikebana – Dr. Indira Misra’s artistic practice has blossomed with the radiance of her Ikebana flower name- ‘Kiku’ or chrysanthemum.
Starting her Ikebana tutelage in 1971 with Mrs. Sakamoto Sensei, she was initiated into the
Ohara School by Ryusui Takahashi Sensei in Tokyo in 1979. After completing her Beginners, Advance, Assistant Teacher and Assistant Teacher 2 certifications, she earned her Instructor certificate in 1983.
She and her colleagues founded the Delhi Chapter of Ohara School of Ikebana in 1990, under the able guidance of Sensei Mrs. Noriko Kobayashi. Indira has since served in every possible capacity – from Treasurer, General Secretary, Vice-President, President, Chairperson, Advisor, Mentor and Director.
She has also been Founder Member and President of Ikebana International Gurgaon Chapter 255, and Founder and Leader of Ohara School of Ikebana Study Group, Gurgaon. Indira achieved her 1st Degree Master’s Certificate, the highest certificate in Ohara School, at the Ohara Ikebana Headquarters in Kobe, Japan.
During the past few decades, Indira has been sharing the art of Ikebana in every possible way. From interviews and articles for newspapers and magazines; talks and TV appearances educating the masses about Ikebana; teaching in schools and colleges; putting up Ikebana stalls in gardening and flower shows; demonstrations and workshops for women’s groups, senior citizen’s groups, demonstrations in malls and of late, Zoom classes.
Presently she is : Leader, Ohara School of Ikebana Study Group, Gurgaon; Nominating Chairperson Ikebana International Gurgaon; and Director of Delhi Chapter of Ohara School.
